It All Started With a Ginger Jar…

Susan Dubose never thought that she would fall in love with furniture, antiques, and things that were unique or that needed a little attention. She could see the significance of each process, whether it was refinishing, repainting, gluing, or reupholstering.

Since new things didn’t appeal to her, she began with what she could afford, which is refinishing pieces. Her initial vintage pieces were painted when chalk style paints were introduced for the first time in the market.

Her friends and family commented on her painting work, asking if she thought about painting for others. She was doing it for herself till then. Later, she started painting a few pieces and selling them.

From 2014 when Cottage Grove Vintage was opened, she has ensured that her vision of selling vintage and local products and employing a high number of female employees is always on track. In 2017, Cottage Grove Vintage moved from E. North Street to its current space on Laurens Road.

When asked what is her favorite thing about running Cottage Grove? She says, I always come back to the people. The sense of community from repeat customers, new customers, and new connections is definitely her favorite thing. We hope you'll soon be a customer of Cottage Grove Vintage!
