Our Favorite Trends for Summer

It may be raining here in Greenville, but we’re thinking about those warm summer days that are right around the corner. We’ve shared some of our favorite trends for the year (see our love for all things brass and evergreen), but what’s hot (or cool!) for the summer? We’ve got three ideas to change up your space.

One-of-a-Kind Nightstands

While this piece is likely already a staple in your bedroom, Lonny Mag says we can expect to see more and more unique nightstands on the market this year, and we always love a quick and easy way to switch things up in a bedroom or guest room. Vintage nightstands are a great way to get that one-of-a-kind look, and remember--they don’t have to match! This is a fun way to think outside the box--we’ve seen round end tables, small dressers, and even vintage suitcases on top of director’s chairs used as nightstands. Have fun with it! For tips on styling your nightstand, we love this guide for mixing aesthetics and function from Becky Gardner. Photo sources: 1 • 2 • 3

Hygge (pronounced “hue-guh”) is a Danish word that’s taking the internet by storm. It’s usually translated as a feeling of coziness, or something that’s special or charming. While hygge is usually associated with long, dark Scandinavian winters, who says you can’t have a little cozy in the summer? Southern screened-in porches are the perfect place to decorate with hygge in mind. We love using this space to incorporate different textures, and while you may not be cozying up with a blanket in July, layering your space with different textiles will make it all that more inviting. Deep Blue

Ahh, our love for all things blue never ends. With summer approaching, you can go the nautical route with stripes and vintage prints or textiles or keep it simple for a cool, relaxing space. Try splashes of blue here and there, or go bold with this idea from Domino Mag: navy walls, dark wood furniture, and accents of crisp white or blush. Photo sources: 1 • 2 • 3

Seeing Evergreen

While we're still loyal to our beloved blue and white, the depth and richness of evergreen is taking up a place in our hearts. This hue instantly adds a lush feel to any space, and we're excited to share some of our favorite evergreen pieces at Cottage Grove Vintage Market right now...

Named as a top trend for 2017 by House Beautiful UK (among others!), evergreen is showing up big time in interiors and fashion. We love mixing it with natural textures, crisp whites, and our ever-favorite brass finishes. Try mixing in lighter green touches or incorporating your favorite indoor plant to allow the different tones to play off one another.

Brass is Back!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be dishing on our favorite trends this year. We keep up with top interior designers and home decor magazines to keep our pieces fresh and on-trend. Today we’re talking all about brass, which is back in a big way and was cited by House Beautiful UK as a top trend for 2017. Ousting copper as the metal of choice this year, brass is a classic finish that lends itself perfectly to the traditional, the modern, and everything in between.

Take one step into Cottage Grove Vintage Market these days and you’ll have no trouble spotting this trend in trays, bookends, boxes, baskets, and our personal favorite--LAMPS. Here’s a few of our favorite brass finds in the shop right now…

If you’re nervous about styling with brass, try mixing it with other finishes like marble, wood, and rich, warm textiles to keep your space soft and inviting. Or, snap a few photos of your space and bring them to us! We love to share ideas and suggest pieces that will keep your home contemporary, yet timeless.
