We're excited to add Jeanette Terry to our blogging team here at Cottage Grove Vintage Market! We've asked Jeanette to share a little about herself and what she'll bring to the blog...
Hi, I'm Jeanette Terry, a Cottage Grove customer, though I think it's now more accurate to say friend. Each visit to the store makes me feel more and more at home and I wonder how I didn't know these lovely folks sooner. On my first visit, Susan and I immediately hit it off discussing good food and good furniture, all while she managed to charm my almost 5-year-old with coloring books, a swivel stool, and perhaps a little candy. My baby blissfully slept in the carrier on my back and I knew this shop would become a regular stop for us.
While my first job is mom to those two little girls, I am also a personal chef here in Greenville. Susan shares my love of good food and asked me to contribute some stories, recipes, and inspiration on this blog from time to time and nothing gets me more excited than helping folks get in the kitchen! Like old furniture, a good recipe has a story to tell and I come from a family full of stories.
I grew up in a family with a deep appreciation for food, both in the way it is prepared and the people with whom we enjoy it. So many of my memories are often tied to family meals and our table was often filled with friends and family alike. Recipes were taught as soon as I was tall enough to see over the counter. Our table was open to anyone. And no food was too adventurous. Except for my grandfather's pickled herring. I never did acquire his Swedish taste for that one!
I often say food is my love language and I have my family to thank for teaching me. This is why I am passionate about reclaiming the art of the family dinner as something that can be prepared and enjoyed together. We may find ourselves busier than ever these days, but that's all the more reason to make the time to eat together around a table. My plan is to share recipes, ideas, and inspiration that can help you do just that. Food should be delicious and fun and it's time to reclaim the kitchen as the heart of the home. I hope you'll join me!
